The UAE, one of the biggest producers of
waste in the region, is also a leading country in the GCC in terms of waste
management projects, according to a recent report. Currently, GCC countries
rank in the top 10 of world waste producers with 120 million tons of waste
generated per year. The UAE and Saudi Arabia produce the most waste. However,
GCC countries are now responding to their responsibilities and the growing
requirement of waste management, according to officials who released latest
data at a press conference held recently to announce an upcoming waste
management summit.
Providing facts and figures on the waste management initiatives in GCC countries, the report showed that the UAE is spending billions for waste management and recycling projects. Various municipalities in the UAE either launch their own projects or collaborate with private companies for joint ventures. Once completed, many of these projects would be the first in their categories.

So many plans and projects have been decided and implemented like the Masdar city which produce no carbon dioxide and will recycle its waste to create energy.
So come lets make UAE develop in the field of waste management by understanding their terms and then implementing the 5R's in our daily life and make it part of our daily routine.
REFUSE
1.Refuse plastic grocery bags, especially if you only have a couple of items that you could easily carry
2.Instructed not to buy items which is real not needed.
REDUCE
1.Reduce consumption of energy and
materials.
2.Waste less energy on lights and equipment.
3.Save water by turning off the faucet while you brush your teeth.
4.Throwing
away a single aluminum can, versus recycling it, is like
pouring out six ounces of gasoline.
pouring out six ounces of gasoline.
REUSE
1.Use products more than once.
2.Use all writing paper on both sides.
REFORM
1.Fix and upgrade your objects rather than throwing them away.
2.Reuse materials in a different form.
eg:Reuse an old yoga mat as foot pads for furniture, a tent “door mat".
RECYCLE
1.Mange waste to prevent it going to landfill .
2.Recycling helps
protect the Environment
3.It helps close the loop.
Listed below are few reasons why we should all recycle old products.
Listed below are few reasons why we should all recycle old products.
1. Reduce
pollution : The more
you recycle old products the less you will require the need of buying new
products. As a result there will be energy saving.
2. Reduction
in Landfills :Size
of the landfills can be significantly reduced if we reduce our daily waste and
recycle more. If we don’t recycle the product the landfills site will become more common around the city which will certainly
affect wildlife and environment.
3. Conservation of materials : All the new products are made from the raw
materials which are procured from harvesting the earth’s natural resources. for
e.g.: you need wood to make paper and wooden products.
4. Save Energy : When there will be less demand for new
products then of course less products will be produced which will help in
saving the energy. Conservation of energy is the key element for the fight
against climate change
5.Save Money :
When you will recycle old products and have less dependency on new products the
obviously you will end up in saving some money.
Listed below are few reasons why we should all re-use
Listed below are few reasons why we should all re-use
- Saving natural resources: Reusing discarded products and using recycled materials to make new products reduces the use of virgin materials, which often involves harvesting trees and mining the earth. Even better, “source reducing” waste — or avoiding the generation of discards in the first place — saves the most resources of all.
- Preventing environmental problems that come from landfills: Few people want a landfill in their neighborhood. Unfortunately, we will need landfills as long as we choose to dispose of waste. Although landfills today are much safer than 20 years ago, they are still a poor use of land and a potential source of groundwater contamination and releases of methane and other gases.
- Saving energy: Enormous amounts of energy are required to make products and materials worldwide. Energy is saved by not using products and materials when at all possible, or by reusing products in their current form. Tremendous energy savings come from using recycled instead of virgin materials in manufacturing.
- Preventing pollution: Almost all manufacturing processes use water and release waste water and air emissions into the environment. Reducing and reusing products cuts down on manufacturing pollution, just as the use of recycled instead of virgin materials prevents pollution in industrial processes.
- Saving money: Households can save money by reusing materials and products and by practicing smart shopping habits that reduce waste.
